About Birth Photography

  • Technically, birth photography is the visual documentarian of your labor, birth and time immediately postpartum. But, in truth, it is so much more than that. Its the safeguarding of the biggest moments that are often forgotten: the first breath, the first latch, the first embrace. It’s the joy radiating from a new parent’s expression. It’s the wrinkles of skin and the tiny toes. It’s knowing whether your baby was sleepy or alert, covered in vernix or crystal clean, had a head full of hair or no hair at all. It’s witnessing a birthing person’s awe-inspiring work, their power, and their partner’s endless support.

  • My pictures do more than show the process of birth. I want to communicate what it feels like to be in labor, to support a person in labor, and to meet your child for the first time. When I have the privilege to share my birth work, I strive to normalize the birthing process and the power of the human body, while illustrating the diversity in birth. I want all expectant families to be able to birth without fear or shame, to be confident in their bodies, and to have agency over their birth experiences.

  • Yes. And even after. I’ll be with you during active labor, through your birth, and up to two hours postpartum.

  • Ideally, I’ll arrive when you’ve started active labor, but every birth is different. We’ll keep in contact from the time you start to feel your first contractions/surges and together decide when I should join you.

  • Yes! I am a certified birth doula and can serve as both photographer and doula for your birth.

  • As soon as possible. Being on call for the month surrounding your estimated due date means I’ll need to keep my schedule clear of out-of-town adventures.

  • I typically go on call for your birth around 38 weeks gestation. This means that I have my gear with me at all times. I don’t travel out of town and I’m ready to drop everything and drive to your birth no matter what time of day or night. I’m all in.

  • Absolutely. No matter how or where you birth we can discuss the logistics how I can document your birth story.

  • Nope. I have a lot of experience working in low-light environments. As long as there’s some light, even a candle, I can make a picture.

  • Of course. Signing a model release is not a requirement to work with me. And if you do let me use images of your birth, you can select which ones you’re comfortable with me sharing.

  • Around six to eight weeks after your birth we’ll schedule an ordering appointment. You will view your images, fall in love, and decide which ones belong in an album and which ones belong on the wall. I work with exceptional printing labs that use legendary papers and archival inks to create true pieces of art that will last for generations.

  • Sure thing. To make professional birth photography available to as many families as possible, I offer non-interest payment plans to all my clients.
